Web Hits and Septum Questions

It seems like a lot of viewers of this blog come from googling or searching the web for information on uterine septums, which is odd to me because I think it's only like  5 percent of woman(don't quote me on that) who have uterine septums, though I actually know several that have them.  But I seem to get tremendous amounts of hits from "uterine septum" searching.  I mean like daily amount of hits.

I don't want anyone to be scared of the surgery to re-sect a uterine septum, it's really not bad, the only thing that was uncomfortable in my case was the stupid balloon.  I hope my previous entries a year ago didn't scare anyone.  Mainly, one, because I would do it again(the surgery) with no regrets and two, the surgery really works...

My only assvice is get yourself to a specialist, a good RE.  This is a surgery that you don't want any ole regular doctor to correct.  So that's my septum assvice for the day.  Though the surgery didn't help my situation with my last IVF cycle, I do think that eventually if we could have kept cycling it would have eventually worked and maybe by some strange miracle I could have actually carried a baby to term, but then again who am I kidding?

So if your are searching the web and debating about having the surgery to correct your uterine septum, please feel free to ask any questions you would like this is your post and I will try to answer any questions for you and share my experience.  I know how lost I was when I was undergoing my surgery and how completely freaked out I was by the diagnosis of the septum, the diagnosis literally rocked my whole world.  So just know that you are not alone, and yes the surgery does work, and yes I do know several people that have had success after the surgery.

Niagara Falls of Periods

So, I had an extremely bad scare on Monday and Tuesday. Let’s just say the flood gates of periods were wide open.  I’ve never bled so much in my entire life (minus my first miscarriage). I really started to re-think the whole septum deal and wondered if having the septum re-sectioned was such a bright idea.  That maybe I should of left well enough alone. 

Yes, it seems after a lot of bleeding.  And I’m talking a lot.  No sleep Monday night.  And several pain pills later.  Hum… and let’s not forget the desperate email sent out to Kath about her period after her septum surgery.  Thank you again Kath, I know that email was pretty disgusting. I finally decided to put a call into the clinic.

I was told by my IVF nurse that soaking through a super tampon and my clothes is not normal at all. And if the bleeding didn’t subside in the next 24 hours they would need me to come in for a D&C to get the bleeding to stop and to get the lining cleaned out.

Well, that’s when I decided to have a little come to Jesus talk with my body.  I told my uterus if she didn’t chill the hell out, it was not going to be good. Like it helped, but I did use my best threatening tactics. Luckily, by mid-afternoon on Tuesday my body finally started to cooperate and things chilled out dramatically.

No D&C, huge sigh of relief over here. Lord knows I’ve waited long enough to cycle. I didn’t ask but I’m sure if I would have had to have the D&C that would be another huge delay in cycle land. Not that I’m excited about injecting huge amounts of hormones in my body. But, I have waited long enough for this chance to cycle again. I really think I’ve paid my dues if you know what I mean.

It's Not Pet Pictures

But, it's extremely good news.  I promise the pet pictures will come.  I feel bad for not posting pictures of the horses(we don't have any on digital).  So, I'm taking some pictures of the horses this weekend.  I didn't want to show favoritism towards the other furbabies.  And I think Goldie and Smokey(the horses) would be extremely jealous if I posted pictures of Puma(the cat) and Macy(the dog).  So, I promise, pictures of our furbabies this weekend.

Anyway, on to the extremely wonderful news.
DING DONG THE BALLOON IS FUCKING GONE!

I'm so happy that sucker is out!  I can't even tell you. 

My post-op follow up was today.  I had to take two percosets on the way down to Mr. Wonderful's(aka RE#3) office.  While I awaited the round with the dildo cam to see how the uterus was doing.  Mr. Wonderful entered the room

He then made a comment on how miserable I looked.  Well, It hasn't been a very pleasurable two weeks.  I informed him of my cramping.  He then tells me I have to wait 2 more weeks to get the hideous balloon out.  Fuck....

He performs the u/s and what does he see.  My poor uterus had pushed the G-d forsaken balloon down into my cervix.  He then informs me that it's doing no good in my cervix so it's coming out.  HELL YES!

Everything has healed nicely.  I have a nice lining building up, the lining around the area where the septum was looked great also, which is wonderful news.  I then ask Mr. Wonderful when can we have sex?  He laughs and tells me it's usually the husband asking that question.  I tell him that it has been 6 weeks since I've did the deed and I'm dying.  I said I think it makes me want it more because I've been told that I can't have it.  My husband then chimes in, he knows how that feels.  Mr. Wonderful and nurse have a huge laugh about that.  He tells B and I that we can have sex tonight if we would like.  I'm excited.  I haven't tested the new uterus out yet.  I'm kind of worried about pain after intercourse because of what Kath has said about sex after her septum surgery.  So, we shall see tonight. 

He removes the balloon, I get fu... out  and it's over with.  It was kind of painful but before I could even say fuck it was already over with.   Short and sweet, that works for me.  Mr. Wonderful tells me to get dressed and meet him in his office so we can discuss where to proceed.

I'm told that when my period comes that I need another saline u/s just to make sure all is well.  That this next period will be my healing period or rest time.  I have 2 more weeks on the fematrace and the e-string.  My period after next I can then move forward with my IVF cycle.

I then ask him if he would allow me to re-test for my day 3 fsh and try again for the shared risk.  He said that would be fine since I used an outside lab.  So with the period after this one, I can go ahead and have my day 3's retested again for the shared risk.  He then told us if I produce 10 eggs with this upcoming IVF cycle that I will be able to go into the shared risk also and the money that we use for this upcoming cycle will be applied to the shared risk balance. 

Any high fsh women around here?  What have you did to lower your fsh?  Any assvice greatly appreciated.  Seriously, I'm willing to try it all if it will get me into the shared risk.  I know acupuncture can help out and I do use acupuncture when I cylce.

Crampville

So, I've had a pretty good run this week as far as cramps.  The ibuprofen has been working well.

Well, last night was hell....

I don't know what the hell is going on but I want this balloon out.  As soon as possible.  Thank God, I go for post-op on Friday.  I'm demanding this balloon come out.  I've had enough.  The only way I can describe the feeling is period cramps times a thousand.

And what is it with me wanting sex?  I know this might be too much information.  But, damn.  I'm about to die.  I guess when someone tells you you can't have sex, it makes you want it more.  I'm dying here people.  My poor husband is going to get raped.  I'm 100 percent sure he won't object!

I only hope that when the balloon does come out that things chill out a little down below.  I don't understand.  I have a pretty good pain tolerance, but this is ridiculous.    RIDICULOUS!  I know everyone is totally over hearing me whine about this balloon.  Sorry folks, I have nothing else to moan about at the moment.

Okay, I'll post something else besides the whinning of the balloon next time.  I promise!

All Is Better...

Well, kind of better.  I went a whole 28 hours without cramps.  And then today I had a little set back.  But, I took Boulder's advice on the Ibuprofen and it has seemed to help out a lot.

I really wanted to pop a Percoset but considering I was in the middle of a haircut I didn't think that would be the best thing to do.  I actually had several more clients to go today when the cramp attack hit me.  So, I sucked my Ibuprofen down like a good little girl and things seem to be manageable now.  The cramps weren't quite as severe as they have been so it's been okay.

And YES, I'm going to try to take my old RE to the bank.  A nice refund for all the monies spent would be nice.  I have a consult with a medical malpractice attorney on the 5th of April.  Like I said before, dumb-fuck RE #2 insisted that I did not have a septum and actually recommended cycling me again.  PLEASE!  You wish fuck face.  With not one recommendation of a change in protocol, may I add.  My FSH went from a 6.5 to an 11 in a matter of a little over a year.  But, you're not going to make any changes in my protocol?  And I don't have a septum?  Yes siree, your a DUMBFUCK!  He should be paying me to cycle with his ass again.

On another note, I have all these fertility meds lying around screaming my name.  I'm so old school, I don't even know how to use the Gonal-F pen.  The last time I cycled with Gonal-F it was the old school snap off viles.  This should be fun. 

I'm thinking my RE told me it would be 3 months before I can cycle.  So I'll find out more on my follow up on April the 7th.  Praying this damn balloon gets to come out.  I'm doing pretty well with the estrogen.  It's seems to be making me very nice.  I'm normally hot all the time and I've noticed that now I stay cold.  Maybe I need estrogen all the time?  If I'm not mistaken I think I'm staying on estrogen for a month. So who knows?  Things are kind of fuzzy, but I do remember talking to my nurse the day after surgery and her telling me that I'll have the E-String in for a month and the Fematrace will be taken for a month also.

Damn, I just want to shoot up already! 

What's so bad it that bitch(hope) is starting to creep in the door already.  Not that I think this cycle will be successful.  But, the septum does explain the failures.  I hate hope.  Hate that bitch.  But you know, if I didn't have hope would I really keep pushing myself?  You have to have a little hope to keep moving on.  It just sucks to get your hopes up and then deal with a negative blow.  I guess that's why I stay so negative 99.9 percent of the time.  Expect the worse, pray for the best.  That's all you can do!

Not To Keep Harping

But, damn.  These cramps are getting seriously old.  Nothing like waking up this morning to a feeling like someone was taking a huge knife and jabbing it in my uterus.  It's very painful.  I had to take a Percoset and lye back down until it kicked in.

Weird thing is that these cramps come and go.  I'm fine for hours and then I get an attack.  If I have to pee I must go as soon as I get the feeling also.  Or else my bladder puts pressure on my uterus and well let me tell you, that's no bundle of joy either.  We won't get started on how gas pains feel either, not good!

I'm finally got out of this house this afternoon and ran some errands.  I've been stuck in this house since Thursday.  I seriously know that I could never be a stay at home mom unless I had twins or something.  Though if I did have children I know my life would not be about sitting on my ass watching TV, reading, and obsessively checking my buddy board on the Internet. I would be tending to my child which would justify me staying at home.  I guess I just feel useless at the moment.  And maybe I feel that my work equals my self-worth or something.  Maybe I shouldn't have said I couldn't be a stay at home mom.  I know that I would probably enjoy the hell at of it.

It depresses me to sit in this house day after day.  I've always worked extremely hard so this no working nonsense for my surgery is getting old .  I go back to work tomorrow and I seriously hope these cramps let up today or else tomorrow will be torturous.  I can just see a nice little cramp attack come on while I'm foiling or cutting a client's hair.  Yeah, not a pretty picture.

I was worried about my cramps the second day after my surgery and then I remembered an email that I sent Jenn inquiring about her septum surgery.  Luckily, I saved it.  She described pretty much the same situation.  She felt fine the day after surgery and then had some pretty bad cramps also.  I'm so glad I remembered her email.  It put my mind at ease  a little.

My Re did say that I would be cramping on and off for a while....  A while? For fuck's sake this has been a long enough while!  I'm ready to get back to normal.  By the time this balloon comes out I'm going to need rehab for pain pills.  I hate depending on anything and it pisses me off that I'm still having to take these fuckers. 

I Spoke Too Soon

Holly Hell, can we talk about some pain?  I guess I spoke too soon.  I've tried to search blogs of fellow septum sisters about the surgery and what I should expect but can't find anything.  I don't know if this is normal or what. 

Yesterday was a good day in Nomad's Land.  Pain minimal.  Slight cramps on and off and I even slowed down on the bleeding.  Today is a whole new ball game.  I'm cramping like a motherfucker.  I don't know if my uterus is fighting the balloon again or if this is my period?  I am suppose to start my period on Monday.  This feels like my period cramps times a thousand.  It actually is close to the feeling of my first period after one of my D&C's but slightly worse. 

I suppose I'll call the clinic tomorrow and inquire on how long I should be bleeding/spotting and the down low about my period.  I've took 4 percosets today.  And let me tell you something.  When those bad boys start wearing off, I can so feel it. 

Hopefully tomorrow will be somewhat better.

Surgery Went Well

Well, all is good and the septum is gone.  Or at least I hope it is.  I woke up from anesthesia crying.  Out of all my surgeries,  I've never had this happen.  I did have some pain but nothing worth crying over.  I felt very confused.  Didn't know where I was, couldn't focus my eyes on anything, and my body was trembling all over.  My anesthesiologist said this was normal that anesthesia sometimes effects the brain in funny ways.  I kind of figure that with all the stress I've been through my body was just kind of letting it out.

After about 45 minutes I started to feel much better.  Mr. Wonderful(aka RE#3) came to visit and said that all went very well.  Surgery went well and he successfully re-sectioned the septum.  He showed me some pictures of my septum.  Said it was rather big.  Explained what he did.  I don't really remember too much of speaking with him.  He then went out and spoke with my husband and went over the pictures of the septum and the surgical procedures with him.

I have a balloon in my uterus that has to stay for 2 to 4 weeks.  He explained that is what was causing my cramping.  That my uterus will quit trying to expel it after a couple of hours and my cramps should let up.  Well, that happened at about 2 o'clock in the morning.  I've not had any bad cramps since then.  Poor little uterus, she put up a good fight.

He put me on Cipro, Femtrace, and the E-String.  The E-string is inserted vaginally and releases the estrogen that I need to quiet the uterus down while it heals.  That little sucker was expensive.  So, I'm going to take a shower(no baths for a month) and insert my little estrogen ring so everything can heal up. 

All is well, I thought I would be in a lot more pain.  So, I'm pleasantly surprised that I'm not hurting.  Thank you all again for checking in on me!  I follow up on the 7Th of April and will find out if my balloon gets to come out.  I'm so happy that this has turned out less painful than I imagined.  I haven't took any pain pills since 10 p.m. last night.  So all is good.
